Reiki for INVC's Victim Services Team

The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago works to prevent crimes, and to help individuals heal from crimes that have been committed to break the chain of violence. We worked with 14 members of the Victim Services staff to familiarize them with Reiki.

Favorite feedback:
“I love this experience. It always helps.”

Reiki helps regulate the nervous system, moving people from sympathetic, to parasympathetic states (aka “fight or flight,” to “rest and digest.”)

Some of these folks have traumatic pasts, and despite that, they put themselves on the front lines to keep Chicago streets safer.

I love hearing what INVC is up to and what new paths they’re forging. Imagine my surprise to see Reiki highlighted in a newsletter about their wellness initiatives. “…a staff favorite,” no less.

We love collaborating with folks who get us.

We were able to work with those new to Reiki and some returning for more. Overall, a wonderful experience for all.

Next goal: working with victims themselves.

Thanks to Reiki volunteers (change makers) Madeline, Barb, and Gail for all your help.

INVC, we love that you follow the teachings of MLK. The Brigade is inspired by his words as well, see below.
